Have you ever seen a horse and rider team working together and thought to yourself “I wish my horse would do that?”  “What has that rider learned that I haven't?”   The answer to these questions are simple.  Communication.

Our horses do not want to be nervous or scared.  They want to do what we are asking them to do but often times they do not understand.  It is up to us to teach our equine partners what we need them to know.  This is where we come in.  At Gates Practical Horsemanship we will work with you & your horse to teach you both a clear simple way to communicate with each other.  Using the Lyons method of training developed by John and Josh Lyons we have an abundance of tools to help you and your equine partner.

How the Program works:   The Partnership Program is broken up into a number of sessions based on your goals with your horse.  Each session is 10 weeks in length with each week consisting of a 2 hour lesson with you and your horse.  This is done in a group setting with a maximum of 3 horse/rider teams.  This allows for a good deal of one-on-one time with the instructor and as well as encouraging learning while having a great time with old friends and maybe making some new ones.

What is in the Program:

The first session covers topics such as:

Bridle-work  (learning to move the hips, shoulders, and nose separately while becoming soft in the bridle)

Round-penning (NOT lunging)

Introducing / reintroducing the saddle

The first controlled rides

Problem solving

The horses used for the program must be able to be saddled, bridled and ridden at a walk and light trot.  Being able to be ridden at a walk, trot and canter is ideal but not necessary.

Many of the horses being brought into the program have some issues with saddling and riding such as not standing still to be saddled, not standing still to be mounted, jigging and speed control issues.  These are common problems that this program is designed to solve!  This program is designed to establish a partnership with you horse whereby the subtle forms of communication become the norm.

You CAN have a quiet and willing equine partner!  It takes time, patience, perseverance and knowledge.   Most people have one or even two of these pieces.  We provide the missing pieces.  When the pieces are all put together, it helps establish a firm foundation on which to build a solid partnership of YOU & your horse.

Each weekly lesson costs $60 per person.  A deposit of $60 is requested to hold the space and will be applied to week 10.

If you have your own group of 3 participants we will come to you (service area applies) or we can add you to a group that is forming.  Call today to start YOUR adventure!
